A New Moon in Cancer Tarot Spread
Published
The time of the year when Cancer reigns tends to give us some of the most deeply emotional people around. The members of the sign are highly sensitive and empathic to the point of being deeply intuitive and, more often than not, even psychic. This impressionable, receptive nature comes from the element of Water that governs the sign and makes those born under the constellation ideal nurturers, mother and father figures, soothsayers and medical professionals deeply passionate about their calling. At the same time, the overly emotional disposition can also signal a lack of rational focus and can lead to thoughts and behaviours not easily understood nor controlled.
What the New Moon in Cancer Will Be About
When the New Moon occurs in Cancer, some of these more negative traits tend to come to the fore and take hold of not just the members of the sign itself but also many other people susceptible to its influence. The deeply emotional nature turns moody, empathy transforms into clinginess, attachment turns into ever-present suspicion, an outgoing personality starts brooding and pondering on the meaning (or meaningless) of life, and an upbeat and optimistic attitude suddenly morphs into a gloomy and pessimistic outlook on life.
Understanding the Roots of Your Emotional Changes During the Cancer New Moon
The clingy side of the Cancer in particular tends to get very pronounced and it is exactly the trait from which, for example, your average freedom-loving Sagittarius will run away as if from the plague. Moodiness is a close second and we may feel a need to cry one moment and laugh the next, all without an apparent reason, the urge only stemming from our inner workings and turning tides of the emotional turmoil. Like a ship caught up in a storm at sea, we may feel without hope, far away from everything we hold dear and from what makes us feel safe and loved.
The tempest however is, in all probability, present only within our mind. While the struggle we are facing may indeed be real, our reaction to it, especially our inner, emotional response is perhaps disproportionate to the gravity of the issue at hand. This is why we need to acknowledge our weaknesses, endure the storm of our emotional trials and tribulations, regardless of whether we are concerned for ourselves or for the worries and woes of others. Even if people can't understand and handle us at times, we should be able (or at least work towards being able) to do so on all occasions.
Never the one to abandon anyone in need, Cancer urges us to embrace our caring nature. With a self-possessed and calm energy, this sign exudes warmth and emotion. While channeling its mode of being, we ought to avoid being pessimistic and wallowing in self-pity. Instead of acting more vulnerable than we actually are, expecting those around us to coddle us and treat us as if we were incapable of dealing with the world, we ought to direct the care, the support and the emotional generosity outwards, to helping those that truly are in need. By assisting them to lift their weight, we will carry our own with greater ease too. There is no better way to elevate our own spirits but by chasing away the clouds from above the heads of those we feel the most for.

A New Moon in Cancer Tarot Spread
To start off, we’re going to go through our decks and find the Chariot card, which is the corresponding card in the tarot to the Cancer zodiac sign. We’re going to use this as a significator of sorts, to help us focus our thoughts on this Cancer new moon.
Shuffle the cards as usual, draw and lay them out as pictured.
- Where have I been too moody? - How have I let my emotions taken control of me? Where do I find it difficult to control my feelings?
- Where do these emotions stem from? - What is at the core of those feelings? Why am I having them?
- What vulnerabilities must I face? - What vulnerabilities must I acknowledge? What must I stop pushing away and accept?
- What in my life is needing of my care? - How can I transform my inner sensitivity into creating a positive environment for others?
