The Three of Pentacles Tarot Card Meaning: Luminous Spirit Tarot Deck

Three of Pentacles in the Rider Waite Tarot

Three men stand below the archway of what looks to be a church. One man stands and holds a chisel, engraving a pattern on the stone. Another man holds the plans, guiding the actions of another. The third is a monk, who is presumably there because he commissioned what the other two are building. All of them seem to be focused on what is being built, engaging and trusting the others to work well in their field of expertise.

Three of Pentacles Tarot Card Meaning & Symbolism

The focus of the three of pentacles is the idea of teamwork - and essentially what is capable when one joins together with a group. When those with a common purpose and ambition come together to use their own individual expertise, they can create much more than what they could alone. To do this, each member must commit fully to the project. When we consider what a church represents, we understand it as a holy, spiritual and sacred place - a home for the soul. Thus, not only must there be focus, but commitment of heart.

Simplifying the Three of Pentacles Tarot Card

Comparison of the three of pentacles in the Rider Waite deck and the Luminous Spirit Deck

When I think of teamwork, I think of the complicated network that exists with insects. We see this ants, termites and bees as well. These insects are connected in ways that almost seem supernatural, and it is said that they have a “hivemind” of sorts, a unified consciousness that allows individual bodies to work together fluidly. We see them weaving immense structures; whether they are underground caverns in the case of ants, stalactite-like nests in the case of termites, or the honey producing hives in the case of bees.

Thus, I chose the worker bee to be the creature represented here - the hive is analogous to the church in the rider waite deck, being both a symbol of industry and the intense co-operation needed to build something together. With the hive, there is also the wonder of being part of something much larger than yourself.

The bee builds the hive, working together with its fellows

Here in the luminous spirit tarot deck, the bee is placed in the center of three coins, and the coins are all connected with differing elements, representing differing types of energy - all of which center around the worker bee, giving it strength and power to create the great work that we all must make.

The Luminous Spirit Tarot Deck is the second deck of my creation, after the Golden Thread Tarot. I've been posting bits and pieces of the artwork on Instagram, but I'm going to start logging my progress here with every piece of work that I do.
